Tailor the visual cues of your course section’s contents by setting the purpose for each activity. Purposes can, but do not have to, match the activity type. Regardless of whether it is a page activity that contains a video, or an actual Video Time activity, you can display an icon that makes sense (e.g. a play symbol) based on the purpose definition. The purpose icons are currently displayed only on the section overview page, but will be made available on the course page and in the activity chooser in an upcoming release.
By default, each activity has a purpose. With Designer, administrators can edit purposes, i.e. changing the name and selecting a Font Awesome icon for each purpose. Besides the default purposes, Designer allows admins to create their own custom purposes. Furthermore, by using a custom class, you can apply custom styling with CSS yourself.
Additionally, you can exclude purposes from the section overview.
We have created several demo courses in the Designer format that you can explore.
Define the purpose of an activity regardless of the activity type. For example, videos that are integrated into a page or a content designer activity can also be displayed as a video icon.
Please note, “Video” is a custom purpose and has to be defined by the administrator.
Designer integrates the icons according to the defined purpose. By default, an icon is set depending on the activity type.
