Kickstart 1.6 is the first Kickstart for Moodle 5 only. It gives you more control over who sees which templates, and it includes every fix from Kickstart 1.5 R8. Still on Moodle 4.5? Then Kickstart 1.5 R8 is the update for you.
Access restrictions for managers
A new setting, Apply template access restrictions to managers, makes template access restrictions also apply to users who can manage templates, site administrators included. They see and use only the templates available to them, and the automatic template applies to them too: if exactly one template is available to them, they go straight to its import like any other user. The setting is off by default, so nothing changes until you turn it on.
Restricted badge
While the setting is off, these users see a Restricted badge on templates that have access restrictions, so they can tell which templates not everyone gets.
Import errors with a reason
When a template import fails, the error message now tells you why.
All fixes from 1.5 R8
Kickstart 1.6 includes everything in Kickstart 1.5 R8, from access restrictions on import and the fixes in the course library to the new Pro capability Include in the course staff list.
Bootstrap 5, no jQuery
Kickstart and Kickstart Pro now use Bootstrap 5 throughout, and their JavaScript runs as modern modules without jQuery.
Moodle 5.0 to 5.2
Kickstart 1.6 supports Moodle 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2. Moodle 4.5 is no longer supported: sites on Moodle 4.5 stay on Kickstart 1.5 and get Kickstart 1.5 R8.
Update Kickstart Pro too
If you use Kickstart Pro, update it to 1.6 at the same time: Kickstart Pro 1.6 requires Kickstart 1.6. Back up your site before upgrading, as always.
