Automation engine feature
This feature allows teachers to integrate content or descriptions from various Moodle activities into notifications. This content is inserted after the static content and before the footer, supporting filters and placeholders for enhanced customization.
The content type defines the format of the content included in the notification. The feature supports specific activity modules (mod types), such as Page and Book.
Teachers can choose from the following content types:
- Placeholder: Uses the dynamic activity solely to populate “Mod_” placeholders without affecting the notification’s actual content.
- Description: Includes the description of the selected activity within the notification body.
- Content: Inserts the full content of the selected activity into the notification body (available only for Page and Book modules). For Book modules, chapters serve as content. Teachers can specify which chapter to include using the “Chapter” configuration.
The content length determines the amount of content included in the notification. Options include:
- Teaser: Includes only the first paragraph, followed by a “Read More” link.
- Full, Linked: Displays the full content with a link to the original content.
- Full, Not Linked: Displays the full content without an additional link.
Chapters (for Book Modules)
Teachers can select specific chapters from a Book activity to include in the notification body. By configuring the Chapters and Content options, they can define which section of the book to include.

Here, a daily mailing with tips is sent out. This time, a book recommendation is shared. The book is available as a Book activity in the course and embedded via dynamic content, showing the first chapter with a link.
This notification is configured via our automation engine.
