This optional setting can be enabled via the global avatar configuration. When active, a user’s primary avatar image replaces their Moodle profile picture.

Ideal for fully gamified platforms where learners consistently appear as their avatar, or for environments using avatars to express style, role, or personal identity. It also supports brand-consistent selections — for example, by offering avatars per department, course of study, or organizational segment, which can be reflected across dashboards and user listings (e.g. in Dash blocks).
